More and more of us are feeling lonely and disconnected from each other. The Zeeuws Museum wants to be a place that helps people to connect. To discover how we can achieve this, we are experimenting together with others.

Abdijplein Middelburg

For the project eenZM Open Square, we’re using the Abdijplein (Abbey Square) for our quest. As it’s a public space, you don’t need a ticket or a reason to be in the square. You can simply be there, stroll around, watch what’s going on or start up a conversation. Using public spaces can help us to connect more, to collaborate and to be more considerate of others. This place belongs to no one and to everyone. We believe that artworks and other experiments in the square can help us to think creatively about what we need to feel more connected to each other.

We meet once a month, whenever possible outdoors on the Abdijplein. During these meetings, we brainstorm and try things out. We talk, listen, create, eat or just hang out together. Everyone is welcome. Will you join us?

The Power of Loneliness

On June 24, Anja Machielse will be a guest at the neighborhood gathering. She wrote, among other works, the book The Power of Loneliness, in which she shows what a complex feeling loneliness is, how people deal with it differently, and how loneliness is strongly connected to the way we live together. She will share her insights and engage in a conversation with us about societal structures that foster loneliness and the loss of connection. The ZMcafé will provide dinner.
